I painted in the two balloons first and some of the ground and shadow areas behind the two subjects. During this stage of the painting, I spend most of the time on values, establishing the dark areas of the paintings first.

The pink dress of the girl and blue shirt on the boy are blocked painted in. Some of the green leaves in the background are colored in.

More of the green leaves above and behind the two children are painted in. Values are painted in first and then the base color.

I add in some flesh tones on the children’s skin, block in the boy’s hair and establish my warm grey values in the boy’s shorts. The boy’s sandals are also blocked in.

A lighter pink is used for the pink flower patterns in the girl’s dress and I also paint in the sandals at the same time. I used a medium brown to paint in some of the girl’s hair and also finish up some of the values in the tree trunks behind the two subjects.

More of the green leaves are painted in behind the two subjects. I also add a light yellow to the background and paint in some of the other background objects, which include a reclining beach chair, blue towel and beach bag.
